Peugeot Key fobs 206 come with the button cell battery which may fail. This video demonstrates how to replace the button cell battery.
The Immobilizer System
When you insert your Peugeot key into the ignition and turn it, it transmits an electronic message to the engine management system. The engine won't start if the code is not right. This helps to prevent unauthorized car theft. If you're experiencing issues with your Peugeot car immobilizer, a reputable automotive locksmith can help. They can program a new or replacement key using tools that are used for dealers. This can save you time and money. You won't have to wait long at the dealership because they will be there for you.
However the fact is that not all antitheft devices are made equal. The Thatcham Research organisation tests anti-theft technologies and grade them to ensure that they meet high safety standards. They can test the system's capabilities by analyzing the messages that are sent between the immobilizer components and CAN bus traffic.
Even the best systems can be vulnerable if targeted properly. In one study conducted by researcher Jan Bokslag used known weaknesses in Hitag2's immobilizer protocol to hack three cars that were all older models. Within ten seconds, a security code for the vehicle was extracted from one of the vehicles. This information is used to generate an ignition key that disables the immobilizer. The other two keys were harder to break however they did eventually get broken.
The Immobilizer Chip
A chipped key, also known as a Smart Key, has a RFID microchip that sends a passcode from the key to the immobilizer system of the vehicle. If the code contained on a chip is identical to the code in the car's immobilizer system the car will start.
This is an important anti-theft feature that assists in preventing car thieves from hotwiring or otherwise overriding the engine immobilizer system. If the immobilizer doesn't recognize the key, the engine will not start even if someone attempts to short-circuit ignition circuit.
Modern cars are equipped with electronic Engine Immobilizer systems that use changing or rolling security codes. The system's intelligent algorithm will alter the second code each time the key's used and insert it into key's chip. The first code is permanent and the immobilizer checks the codes each time the ignition key is turned.
This is a highly sophisticated technology that is very difficult to hack. It's the reason why many stolen vehicles cannot be started. If your Peugeot starts, but then shuts down, it is likely not the immobilizer. It could be several electrical issues that have caused the car to stop functioning. Our auto locksmiths are able to solve these issues. They can also reprogram a chipped or smart Peugeot Key to ensure it works again.
The Battery
Peugeot car keys contain the transponder chip that, when coupled with the vehicle, deactivates the vehicles standard immobiliser system located within the ECU (engine control unit). This allows the vehicle to be started and also allows the key fob to operate the doors and boot. The chip is concealed within the head of the manual or remote key.
When the 206 was first introduced in 1999 Peugeot was facing stiff competition from superminis like the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo. Peugeot's unique strategy was to position it between the Peugeot 106 range and the 306 range. The lower models of both the Peugeot 306 and 106 were developed to take sales from the more expensive 205s.
The 206 range includes an open-air hatchback, a two-door coupe cabriolet, and a station wagon known as the 206 the CC and the 206 SW. There was also an WRC homologated version of the 206, dubbed the 207 GTi which could go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and the top speed of 210 km/h.
The peugeot 206 is a sought-after choice for those looking for a stylish and affordable family car. However, as with all vehicles, issues may occur and lead to an inability for the car to start or the key fob to stop working. If this is the case, you can contact us and we will arrange for Peugeot car keys replacement by one of our Auckland-based locksmiths.
