Getting a Kia Sportage Key Replacement

Kia is equipped with some impressive security features that make it difficult for thieves to gain access to your vehicle. However, getting a replacement key from a dealer can be expensive.

Luckily, locksmiths aren't that costly and can design new keys on site. You can even have a wallet key made, that does not require programming.

Keyless Entry System

The key fob contains an internal chip that enables it to communicate with the receiver module inside your car. If the key fob ceases to function suddenly, it's likely that the chip inside is damaged. It could happen when you drop your key fob or if an alternative keyfob isn't working. In this scenario you'll still be able to start the vehicle by pressing the "Start" button on the key fob in case the battery isn't dead.

If the key fob is functioning, it will send an indication to the receiver module which tells it which door or trunk is open. The module will then open the correct trunk or door to allow you to start and get inside the car. By pressing the button on the remote control, you are able to lock or unlock the car. Certain systems are smart enough to recognize the driver's specific fob and automatically lock after they leave the vehicle.

Most Kia models come with an integrated keyless entry system that comes with the remote key fob as well as a transponder flip keys. Certain models require a professional locksmith to program them, but others do not. Batteries power all key fobs and keys. They must be replaced every two years. The type of battery you'll need is C-2032, which is purchased on the internet for around $5.

Key Fob

The Kia key fob is a cylindrical silver piece with a button on the left side of the upper. It allows you to release the mechanical key, allowing you to open doors when the battery runs out. It can also be used to start the car in case of an emergency. If you have a locksmith nearby they might be competent to cut a brand new Kia key for you, but it is essential that they have the appropriate equipment.

If you have an older model Kia without a transponder chip It's likely that you will require remote keys from the dealership. The dealer will need to have the driver's license and proof of ownership in order to make the key. You will be informed when the key is ready.

The dealer does not always need to charge you extra for this service. If you lose your key, you can also find a replacement. Wilson KIA will help you get started! Transponder Chip Key

The transponder chip is a security device that transmits a unique code to car's immobilizer when it's inserted into the ignition. The immobilizer then blocks the vehicle's starter motor, fuel pump and any other device that would allow it to operate not for the chip's identification code.

The key is made of all-metal with a head made of plastic which houses the transponder. To remove the key from the ignition, it's necessary to use a screwdriver or spare pliers to achieve enough leverage to open the lock. Once the key's been removed, the user will be able to view and remove the chip - it appears to be a small black square or a transparent tube. The chip is placed on the tape and is attached to the ignition lock near the barrel for ignition.

Locksmiths can create new remotes, keys, or proximity chips for a Kia Sportage for spare a fraction of the cost that you'd pay at a dealer. They can also program an alternative chip key for your car as well as reprogrammed the immobilizer to recognize the key. A locksmith can do this by connecting a programming device to the OBD-II port in your vehicle, and using it to connect with the appropriate modules to alter the code that tells the system that the new key is valid.

Remote Key

When you are buying a vehicle there are many choices to think about. Some of them are practical, like leather seats and GPS navigation and others are just a matter of convenience, such as remote keyless entry.

With remote keys, you don't need to fight to enter your car any longer. You just need to push the button to lock it and unlock it. The keys themselves appear like ordinary metal keys, but they're much more than they appear to be. They have a transponder chip that lets you start your car without using the traditional metal key into the ignition.

The batteries in the majority of key fobs should be replaced every two years or whenever you notice they are not working in the same way. The good thing is that you can replace the battery on your key fob at a fraction of cost that you would pay to hire a locksmith or dealer to do it. You can find the CR-2032 batteries at the majority of big-box stores and hardware stores.

Only an automotive locksmith or dealer has the special programming machine needed to program certain key fobs. Other keys, however, have no transponder chips and therefore don't require programming.
